Review of Rebecca

Here is the English translation of the Polish film review:

“Rebecca is one of those films that have been captivating audiences for over eighty years. Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, based on Daphne du Maurier’s novel, this Rebecca is a classic thriller that combines elements of mystery, romance, and thriller. The story about Maxim de Winter, an elderly widower, and his new wife, who becomes the victim of constant comparisons to the deceased Rebecca, is a tale that still manages to intrigue and transport viewers to another era.

“Rebecca” is a history of love, obsession, and secrets hidden behind the walls of Manderlay estate. The main protagonist, a young and impoverished girl, marries the elderly Maxim de Winter and becomes the new mistress of Manderlay. However, she soon discovers that the deceased Rebecca still has a huge influence on her husband’s life and service, causing the new Mrs. de Winter to feel increasingly out of place and isolated.

“Laurence Olivier” and “Joan Fontaine” deliver a truly convincing couple, with their chemistry on screen undeniable. Alfred Hitchcock, as always, shows his mastery in building tension and creating an atmosphere that draws viewers into the story. His direction is subtle but very effective in creating a sense of unease and uncertainty.

“The visual presentation of Rebecca is truly impressive, especially considering it was made in 1940. Francis L. Sullivan and George Barnes created photographs that are simply beautiful and add even more atmosphere to the film. The music by Francis Poulenc is equally important, as it creates a background score that perfectly complements the mood of the film.

“Rebecca has several strong points:

* Atmosphere: The film creates a truly unique atmosphere that draws viewers in and prevents them from leaving the screen.
* Acting: Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine deliver convincing performances.
* Direction: Alfred Hitchcock shows his mastery in building tension and creating an atmosphere.
* Script: The script is well-written and creates a story full of twists and surprises.

“Rebecca has several weak points:

* Tempo: The film sometimes has too slow a tempo, which may bore some viewers.
* Character development: Some characters are one-dimensional and could be better developed.
* Special effects: The special effects are very limited, but it’s worth remembering that the film was made in 1940.

“For whom is Rebecca? This film is for everyone who loves thrillers, mysteries, and romances. It’s also a film for those who want to see how Alfred Hitchcock builds tension and creates an atmosphere.

“In conclusion, Rebecca is a truly unique film that should be seen by anyone interested in cinema. Its atmosphere, acting, and direction create a story that is simply unforgettable. Although the film has some weak points, its strong points clearly outweigh them. Therefore, if you haven’t seen Rebecca yet, you absolutely have to watch it.”
